Sotheby’s Season Highlights

Sotheby’s has released more details of the planned opening of the company’s new Madison Avenue headquarters in New York. Also announced are details of more than 150 events in the international auctioneer’s season. The statement from Charles F. Stewart, Chief Executive Officer, reads:

“Dear Clients, This summer, as you undoubtedly heard, we announced the November 8th opening of our new headquarters at the Breuer building on Madison Avenue. The restoration is coming together right on schedule. We can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome you all back inside one of the world’s great temples to art – just in time for our marquee New York Sales.

“Beyond the Breuer, we have a jam-packed fall season with highlights all around the world – including more than 150 auctions scheduled between now and year’s end. Of particular interest is our inaugural Abu Dhabi Collectors’ Week, an unprecedented program of auctions, masterclasses, panel discussions, and exhibitions. Held from December 2nd to 5th, during one of the busiest periods in the Abu Dhabi calendar, Collectors’ Week showcases the best Sotheby’s has to offer – including world-class art, a single-owner collection of jewellery and watches, plus three McLaren competition cars sold ahead of the final Formula 1 race of the season.

Asia

“In Asia, our Hong Kong Maison continues to stand out as a beacon. With a live auction there on September 9th, we will present Masterpieces of Chinese Ceramics from the Ise Collection. Spanning seven millennia of history, the sale ranges from Neolithic pottery to Qing dynasty enamelled porcelains.

“In London, on September 17th and 18th, our New Bond Street saleroom will offer the greatest grouping of Surrealism in recent memory. It’s the collection of Pauline Karpidas, whose works by Magritte, Dalí, Picabia, Lalanne, Giacometti, and so many more will make this a landmark event for the London art market.

“The following weekend, September 20th to 21st in New York, we’ll host our first ever Open House, a two-day symposium for the next generation of art and luxury collectors. Every event is free and open to the public.

“As we prepare to celebrate the first anniversary of our flagship gallery in the 8th arrondissement of Paris (and to host The Paris Sales on October 24th), we invite you upstairs to try our outstanding restaurant 83 Le Café, featuring chef Gaëtan Thibert’s cuisine.

“To round out our 2025 art programming in New York, from December 12th to 21st we’ll present Sotheby’s Icons: Back to Madison, a special retrospective exhibition at the Breuer including some of the most significant works we’ve ever sold.  While planning all of the above, we’ve upgraded our Sell With Sotheby’s portal and redesigned our app for both iOS and Android. Consignors and buyers alike will appreciate the difference.

“Wherever you are in the world this fall, in person and online, we have something new for you to experience.”
