Ronnie Wood Portrait to Save the Elephants

Hannah Shergold, Ronnie

British artist Hannah Shergold is to hold her sixth solo exhibition at the prestigious Mall Galleries in London, pulling together a collection of 30 pieces inspired by wildlife from around the world, and a centrepiece portrait of rock legend Ronnie Wood. Launching on 30th September with a private view ahead of opening to the public until October 4th, the 2025 Collection is Shergold’s strongest yet, showcasing her stylistic, highly representational studies with vigour. The large-scale canvases have already attracted significant interest from collectors, with several pieces being reserved ahead of the public opening.

A self-representing artist, Hannah has, from the outset, dedicated her platform as a means to generate awareness and raise funds for charities. Beneficiaries have included Invictus Games, Born Free and WWF. She is committed to donating at least 10% of each sale to charity and, in doing so, has raised over £370,000. She explains, “It’s not just enough to make a living through painting. For me, the art must give something back.”

In 2022, conservation charity Tusk Trust invited Shergold to become an ambassador for them. Since then, she has been a regular on the Trails (The Lion Trail 2021 and the Gorilla Trail 2023 and this summer’s Turtle Trail), supporting its conservation work and raising over £250,000 in the process. This exhibition is as much about revealing her new body of work as it is about continuing the support for Tusk Trust.

Fundraising

At the heart of the 2025 Collection lies its centrepiece — a portrait that will lead this year’s fundraising efforts. Shergold has collaborated with Tusk’s longest-serving ambassador, fellow artist and rock legend Ronnie Wood. Over the past year, Wood has sat for Shergold in a series of private sittings, with the finished piece set to be unveiled at the exhibition’s private view. Though this isn’t her first foray into portraiture – she has previously painted Sir David Attenburgh, Lieutenant General Sir Tyrone Urch, Ashley Walters, Emeli Sande – it is an acknowledgement of her expanding repertoire.

“This body of work is extremely personal to me. I feel it represents a move forward, not only from an artistic point of view, but I feel more centred and confident as I pull the final preparations together for my sixth solo exhibition. I have been so fortunate with the people I have met, whether through life or clients who have bought my pieces. But working with Ronnie has truly been a highlight. It has really challenged me to create my best, and his grace and patience with this project have been inspiring as an artist. Our shared passion for conservation and the work Tusk does has made this piece, and the collection one of my proudest moments.”
