Actor and artist Johnny Depp reveals his latest art collection, Let the Light In, a two-piece collection and limited edition of 195, exclusively available at Castle Fine Art, on July 18th 2025.
Having created the original works in the early 2000s, they represent a poignant era of freedom and artistic introspection in Depp’s life, with the first work being a self-portrait and the second a delicate rose.
This period spanned the early years of his relationship with Vanessa Paradis and the growth of their children, Jack and Lily-Rose. As a family, they spent much of their time together at Le Hameau, Depp’s estate in the South of France – where he painted these works.
The collection offers a glimpse into what was a significant chapter of Depp’s life and into the light of Le Hameau, as we see him capture the comfort and safety of home. Influenced by still life traditions and the discipline of capturing light in all its forms, a tenderness can be felt in the intuitive strokes and considered tones of these works. Depp said “I’ve been lucky enough to understand through various artists – listening, learning things – the only thing you can really do is add the light to what’s there.”

At the heart of the collection is a self-portrait, ‘Add the Light’, the second released with Castle Fine Art. In contrast to Five, his 2023 self-portrait that explored several years of personal reckoning, this portrait allows a deeper sense of himself to the surface. Created in watercolour, Depp offers a unique insight into the beauty of the work’s development, reflecting the rawness and stripped back nature of the subject. Depp has previously said that every painting is a self-portrait. When asked what this particular painting meant to him, he reflected “It represents exactly what I was experiencing at the time – very present, just there.”
The companion piece is a single rose, ‘A Rose Is a Rose Is a Rose’, painted with soft, intuitive brushwork. The rose is a symbol that Depp has felt an infinitely stronger tie to since the birth of his daughter. This is not the first time that Depp has painted a rose. A rose also featured in ‘The Lovers’, a piece from Depp’s 2024 Tarot collection, where it symbolised protection, connection, and the many forms of love beyond the romantic. In this newly released work, the flower embodies his love for Lily-Rose and distills all his emotions towards her into a singular, poetic vision. Keeping it safe on the page.
“When Lily-Rose was a little kiddie, I’d paint her a rose every Valentine’s Day. On Mother’s Day I’d paint Vanessa some roses. You don’t really know where it’s going to go, it’s all up to chance.”
Style
This collection also marks a notable evolution in Depp’s artistic style. He comfortably embraces a nuanced and painterly language in his artistic trajectory, as stillness and softness shine through. While his previous works often drew on pop culture references and graphic techniques, these two works embrace a more subtle approach. Rendered with elegant restraint, the two pieces stand in quiet conversation – one looking inward, the other outward. Together, they trace the outlines of a private life touched by light.
Let the Light In offers collectors the chance to own a piece of Depp’s early work as an artist, originally created during one of the most serene and meaningful periods of his life.
It can also be seen as the final piece in a series of work close to Depp’s heart, each quietly honouring a member of his family. The Bunnyman Genesis, (2023), was a symbolic reference to his son Jack, with the Bunnyman figure being one that both Depp and his son had experienced in recurring dreams. In Tarot (2024), the piece ‘The Empress’ paid tribute to Vanessa. And now, with Let the Light In, Depp turns his gaze to his daughter, Lily-Rose. Collectively, the works represent an emotional completion – giving a glimpse into Depp not only as an artist but as a partner and father.

The works are hand signed by Depp, and are available individually or as a set.
The collection is about standing still, surrounded by those you love, and choosing to let the light in.
Let the Light In will be available from 8:00AM BST on 18th July 2025 via www.castlefineart.com and at Castle Fine Art’s 38 galleries nationwide.
