Idyllic Estate Establishes Cultural Art Park

Idyllic Cotswold estate The Lakes by YOO has announced plans to establish a cultural art park on its luxury 850-acre estate.

The Lakes Art Park will display work by some of the world’s finest artists and sculptors, with ambitions to increase the number of artworks at the estate and provide a cultural extension of The Lakes by YOO to residents and visitors.

Located amongst secluded natural woodland, residents and their families will have the chance to engage with the artworks in a peaceful and private setting that will highlight each artist’s skill and creativity.

John Hitchcox, The Lakes by YOO visionary and Chairman of YOO Capital, said: “It has long been our vision to champion immersive and enriching new experiences. We are thrilled to be partnering with artistic talent from around the world to enhance the cultural and educational experience for families and young people on the estate.”

Kaws, GONE at The Lakes by YOO

Yoshitomo Nara and KAWS will be the first two distinguished artists to exhibit their artworks. The contemporary artists have both showcased works in some of the world’s most iconic galleries, captivating audiences with their bold signature styles.

The Lakes Art Park will house both artworks, titled Your Dog and GONE, from September 2021.

Your Dog, cast in aluminium, has a minimal white form as large as an elephant. With its downcast eyes and a quiet facial expression, the puppy resembles that sweet cuddly pet in our childhood memories, however its surreal size engages the experience of perception, which could refer to that of a small child – being little in a big world or alternatively, powerful symbols of a spiritual dimension.

An emotional depiction of loss, GONE, 2019, shows KAWS’s well-known characters COMPANION and BFF in a pose reminiscent of that seen in a classic pietà. It is among the most powerful of KAWS’s sculptural works, which often embody humility, pathos and vulnerability. Whether as toy or monumental sculpture, the exquisitely rendered and immaculately finished work engages with contemporary issues such as loneliness and celebrates supportiveness in today’s increasingly fractured world.
