John Crabbie Unveils Limited Edition Rare 50 Year Old Single Malt

John Crabbie Unveils Limited Edition Rare 50 Year Old Single Malt.

John Crabbie was one of the pioneers of Scottish whisky. His passion for high quality whisky took him to the best distilleries in Scotland, to purchase single malt whisky for his renowned Crabbie brand. Today, more than 200 years on, John Crabbie & Co are proud to present their 50 Year Old single malt whisky from the iconic Bunnahabhain distillery on the northern shores of Islay. Limited to just 226 decanters globally, the exclusive offering is sure to attract a great deal of interest from whisky collectors and investors.

Founded in 1801 in Edinburgh, John Crabbie & Co were one the first companies to independently bottle single malt Scotch Whisky. In 1884, just three years after the Bunnahabhain distillery opened on the island of Islay, John Crabbie visited, and in appreciation of the exceptional whisky produced there purchased 30 hogshead barrels, to be sold under the Crabbie name.

In homage to the founder’s shrewd investment, John Crabbie & Co have sourced a refill hogshead from the very same coastal warehouse, for their latest Crabbie 50 year old single malt release. This unique single cask bottling is bottled at cask strength, naturally coloured and without chill filtration, just as the distiller intended. Bunnahabhain distillery is famed for the subtlety of peat in their whisky and their fondness for using sherry casks in the maturation process.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Ripe apricots, dates, candied orange peel with autumnal spices. Sweet toffee and strawberry linger on the nose.
Palate: Smooth, buttery mouthfeel with decadent syrup sponge, beautiful warming notes of salted nut brittle, toffee, creme anglaise all wrapped together with gentle wisps of oak smoke.
Finish: Orange and lemon marmalade, candied ginger, subtle nuttiness with a long well developed finish that only time can create.

Each of the individually numbered Glencairn crystal decanters have been hand blown meaning they are just as unique as the liquid they contain. The decanter is presented in an elegant display box, and accompanied by an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.

The Crabbie team hand selected cask number 11562 for its complex sweet and savoury balance. “Fifty years of ageing has allowed the whisky in cask 11562 to mature into an exquisite single malt with a rich amber colour and exceptionally full flavour characterised by rich sweetness and spice. It’s a beautifully complex and refined single malt, the perfect example of whisky aged for many years in European oak.”
