Iconic Marilyn Monroe Dress is Auctioned

The iconic ‘Happy Birthday Mr. President’ dress, which was worn by Marilyn Monroe when she famously sang to President John F. Kennedy at New York’s Madison Square Garden in 1962, was sold by Julien’s Auctions for the record price of $4.81 million—around $1.8 more than it was estimated to fetch by the Los Angeles auction house. The stunning dress, presented on the custom-made mannequin designed to match Monroe’s body measurements, was just one of the many personal and career items belonging to the legendary actress offered at the auction—which raised nearly $11 million in total. Throughout the three auction days in November, bidders from around the world made an offer on items from costumes to personal notes of one of the most famous screen stars of all time.
